As well roll into summer here in Cocoa Beach we are starting to see many of our favorite offshore species begin to make their return, while some others peel off a bit for cooler waters. Thankfully we hot the water with so many different tactics that we are able to see a plethora of species at different depths, conditions, and with varying fishing styles.
What Gets Better in the Summer?
I’m writing this in May, so lets start with right now. Barracuda, mackerel, marlin, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna fishing are starting to peak. Begining in June and through August, we add mahi and shark fishing – and we remain at peak levels with the tune and billfish.
Great fishing for amberjack, cobia, grouper, and snapper will remain all summer long.
What Gets Worse in the Summer?
Really just a couple species get a little finicky in the summer heat. Sharks will be somewhat elusive during the beginning, while wahoo fishing will taper off towards the end of summer.
Well, that’s why Cocoa Beach offshore fishing is so awesome – its a year around fishery and we have some staple species that keep drags peeling all year long (though activity peaks may vary). These include:
- King Mackeral
- Blue Marlin
- White Marlin
- Yellowfin Tuna
- Red Snapper

More About Cocoa Beach Offshore Fishing
Cocoa Beach is one of the premier offshore fishing destinations in the state. This area offers easy access to the gulf stream, which in turn provides you with a top-notch fishery within easy reach.
The offshore fishery here provides both stellar bottom fishing opportunities, alongside world-renowned pelagic fishing. There are a number of charted wrecks to fish for giant grouper and amberjack. While at the same time, the gulf stream itself acts as a highway for billfish, mahi, cobia, and many more pelagic species that call this area home. Cocoa Beach is also the epicenter for many migratory species. Again, thanks to the jet stream, we are situated along the annual migration paths of many highly sought after offshore gamefish.
